Welcome to Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology - Skills for life

Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) is one of the pioneer technical training institutes in Kenya. RIAT is in Kisumu County on Lake Victoria’s Eastern shores at the tip of Winam Gulf, a strategic position in the East African Community due to its accessibility to the regional countries of Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Transforming TVET Through Generative Artificial Intelligence: RIAT Hosts National GenAI in TVET Workshop.

Subject Matter Experts in Fashion Design across Technical and Vocational Institutes in Kenya convene at Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology to curate, review, and validate AI-enhanced e-learning resources through a partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA) and the Kenya School of TVET.

Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) successfully hosted a national workshop on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), bringing together Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Fashion Design and Garment Making from various TVET institutions across Kenya.

The workshop was held in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), and the Kenya School of TVET, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital transformation in skills training and enhance the quality of teaching and learning resources within the TVET sector.

The primary focus of the workshop was the curation, review, and validation of AI-enhanced e-learning resources, particularly e-books designed to support competency-based education in Fashion Design and Garment Making. Participants engaged in structured review sessions aimed at ensuring academic accuracy, industry relevance, and alignment with national TVET curricula standards.

Subject Matter Experts worked collaboratively to refine content developed using Generative AI tools, ensuring that the materials meet quality assurance benchmarks while remaining responsive to current industry trends, sustainability practices, and evolving fashion technologies.

In addition to content validation, the workshop provided a platform for knowledge sharing on the integration of Artificial Intelligence in curriculum development, instructional design, and digital content creation. Participants explored how GenAI can be responsibly applied to improve efficiency in resource development while maintaining academic integrity and pedagogical value.

Stakeholders emphasized the importance of partnerships between TVET institutions, regulatory bodies, and development partners in accelerating the adoption of digital learning solutions. The collaborative engagement was highlighted as a key step toward strengthening innovation, research, and skills development within Kenya’s TVET ecosystem.

The workshop concluded with a collective commitment to continuously enhance digital learning resources and expand the use of emerging technologies in TVET delivery, particularly in creative and technical disciplines such as Fashion Design and Garment Making.
