Department of Fisheries Technology
The department of Fisheries Technology was started in 1990. It offers a certificate course in Fisheries Technology. The fisheries sub sector in the country has for along time reeled from the lack of skilled middle-level manpower whose input is very much required if the envisioned growth of the sub sector is to be realized. Hence the importance of training in this vital sub sector need not be overemphasized.
The training offered is geared towards meeting the special needs of the country in response to qualified manual labor in activities involving modern fishery techniques as well as its derivatives such as processing, conserving and marketing of catches and other associated aspects like marine safety. The training needs of artisanal fishers are addressed to enhance their income and livelihoods as well as middle cadre staff in the sub sector to provide efficient services.
